About Us

The International School of Arizona (ISA) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization operating in the City of Scottsdale, Arizona USA.

Our diverse community is made up of like-minded, multicultural parents who understand that high academic standards, a small school with a family atmosphere, and fluency in multiple languages are elements that offer the greatest value to their children in the short and the long term. Many of our families come from various national, ethnic and religious groups. Others are monolingual Americans who understand the great gift they are offering their children. Our families develop incredibly strong bonds across this diversity.

The student population ranges from age 2 (PK1-2) through Grade 8. From PK1-2 through Grade 5, parents select either the French Program or the Spanish Program, where the majority of the day is taught in the target language. We welcome new students with minimal French or Spanish fluency to all levels.

In our International Honors Middle School, Grades 6-8, we offer an honors level International Curriculum with Advanced Foreign Language for students who wish to excel in academics, receive intensive language instruction by native speaking teachers, and socialize with students from the U.S. and other countries. The Middle School curriculum is 70% English and 30% French, Spanish, or Mandarin. Middle School students wishing to continue with Advanced French may follow our French Curriculum, which is structured on the French Ministry of Education Middle School accreditation standards. Our Middle School graduates are well prepared for the best college preparatory and International Baccalaureate high schools in the USA and beyond.

History

The school was founded in 1997 by a group of French-American community members who wanted to create an educational option for valley families who were interested in an immersion program in English and French. The intention was to add additional languages as the school grew and demand increased. The school began operations in Tempe in 1998 by renting space from a small church where it held Pre-School and Elementary classes for four years. In 2002, the school relocated to South Scottsdale, where it operated in multiple locations until 2016. In August 2016, ISA moved into its current campus, purchased as part of the strategic plan to acquire a permanent location.

The French Program was offered exclusively until 2005, at which time a Spanish Program was introduced at the preschool level. The Spanish Program continued to add
grade levels each year as the program grew with committed families and students.  The school follows curricula set forth by the French Ministry of Education and the Spanish Ministry of Education. Our U.S. curriculum, taught by highly educated instructors, implements the inquiry based STREAM philosophy, integrating Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
