Come celebrate language learning in the Valley at ISA's 5th Annual Foreign Language Poetry & Rhyme Reading Event: Open Your Mind! This year's event will be held at ASU's SkySong Center (corner of McDowell & Scottsdale Rd) on Saturday, November 7 from 1:00-5:00pm.
Children ages 5-17 can enter to read a poem or rhyme in the language of their choosing. Also join us for an International book fair, foreign language story time readings, information on language organizations in the area, a guest speaker, contests, refreshments and much more. ISA has been dedicated to enriching foreign language learning in the Phoenix area for over 12 years. Come help us celebrate Valley children's accomplishments and early language learning with an afternoon of fun!
ISA will also be kicking off a canned food drive at this event to benefit Vista Del Camino Community Center in Scottsdale. Please bring a canned food item to donate.

Guest Speaker: Kellie Rolstad
Kellie Rolstad is Associate Professor of Language and Literacy and Applied Linguistics at Arizona State University. She specializes in early childhood bilingual education, child informal learning and other child-focused topics in applied and educational linguistics, and has published articles and chapters on language diversity, bilingual education programs and theory, two-way bilingual immersion, and language shift in indigenous language communities in Mexico. Her work has appeared in Bilingual Review, Bilingual Research Journal, Teachers College Record, Educational Policy, and in Paulston and Tucker’s Sociolinguistics: The Essential Readings (Blackwell, 2003). Professor Rolstad has studied Spanish, French, and German, and has taken classes in Farsi, Dutch, Italian, Bulgarian, Turkish, Latin, Swahili, American Sign Language (ASL), and Aztec. She has spent significant time abroad, teaching and learning in France, Austria and Mexico, and has served as a visiting scholar in the Graduate School of Education at Harvard and at UCLA. Her three children participated in two-way Spanish/English immersion programs.
