Throughout the past year several parents have been working on a plan to improve the school's playground. Feedback from parents, teachers and students have been taken into account to design a play area that will be appropriate for a wide variety of age groups and provide a safe and healthy area for children and the adults supervising them.
Research on the different options began in May 2007 and have continued through May 2008.
The new plan includes the following improvements:
Surfacing - synthetic grass to replace dirt/sand areas
Shade - new shade structure installed between ramadas
Misting system - to run along edge of building
Specialty Play area - bordered sand box to be installed next to Eastern wall on South side of playground

Benefits to the improvements include: more shade to help protect the children from the sun, reduced dust and allergens, less dirt/sand to come home in shoes and clothing and a cooler area with the misting system installation.
The total cost of the project is around $33,000. One third of the cost ($11,000) is being covered by the school with funds from the annual fundraising soirée. The remaining amount will need to come from parent donations or parent-driven fundraising efforts.
Since all students in the school will benefit from the improvements we would like to ask each family to contribute $300 towards this project in May/June and have the work completed during the summer months.
