Board of Directors

The school board is the policy-making body of our school. The board is responsible and accountable for planning, policy, advocacy, and evaluation for the benefit of the children at ISA. Specifically, the board's mission lies in the following:

  • Adopting policy
  • Establishing a vision for the school
  • Planning and assessing short- and long-term goals
  • Realizing the Strategic Plan
  • Acting as a liaison between the community and parents
  • Evaluating the Executive Directors
  • Advocating for students
  • Approving a budget that reflects the priorities of the school and a responsible use of monies
  • Conducting business in an ethical and democratic manner.
 
School Board Elections: April 2, 2012

School Board Elections will take place on Monday April 2, 2012 from 4:30-6:00 PM, in the office lobby. Early voting is available on Friday and Monday March 30 & April 2 between the hours of 7:30am-4:30pm. It is very important that all enrolled families participate in the election so a quorum is met. Each family will have one vote. Voters need to elect two General Members for 2 year terms.

 

Candidates from inside and outside the school community are welcome to run for these positions. A School Board Candidate Application must be completed and e-mailed to mborie@isaz.org by the deadline. Applications are due by 3pm on Monday March 26, 2012.

 

Sebastien Verstraet
Chairperson (Spring 2011-Spring 2013)

Sebastien is a Lead Project Manager at Honeywell International.  He speaks French and English and has professional experience in Project Management, Global Business Management/Strategy, and Finance. During his time on the ISA Board, Sebastien would like to continue to grow ISA, not only in terms of number of students, but most importantly in terms of level of education for our students.  He also wants to ensure ISA is a great environment for our students to learn and for our teachers to work.

Mark Doerflein
Treasurer (Spring 2011 - Spring 2013)

Mark has professional experience in asset management, specializing in industrial acquisitions, development, and operations opportunities in Arizona and the Rocky Mountain states.  Mark also serves on the Boards for the Arizona Science Center and Mayo Leadership Council.

 

 

Keely Moran
Secretary (Spring 2010-Spring 2012)

Keely is a founding member for Maricopa County Animal Care & Control and past board member for the Phoenix Sister Cities commission.  She speaks English and Spanish.  Keely looks to continue the expansion of the Spanish track and to find a permanent location for ISA.

 

 

Suzie Cartwright
General Member (Spring 2010-Spring 2012)

Susie has a B.A. and M.A. from ASU and nine years of middle and high school teaching experience plus one year as a preschool assistant.  She speaks English, Spanish, and some French and has participated in student exchange programs in France, Canada, and Mexico.  Susie has also taught in Brighton, England.   Susie hopes to maintain and improve processes and procedures within ISA as it to grows.  She serves as ISA’s contact to the Council of Educational Facility Planners International and hopes to give ISA the connections and opportunities to look at green building and sustainable schools.

 

James Ahlers
General Member (Spring 2011-Spring 2013)

James is an attorney with Perkins Coie LLP.  He has served as a board member for the Arizona Latino Media Association (ALMA); was a Mexico policy analyst, spokesperson and communications director in the Arizona Governer’s Office, is a former journalist, and does pro bono and community service work for clients in Mexico and Central America.  He speaks English, Spanish, and some French.  James hopes to expand the availability of multi-lingual, multi-cultural education to more students in Arizona, while maintaining and improving the high-caliber education that ISA provides to its existing students.  He also hopes to serve as an ambassador for the school and raise the school’s profile, to gain greater recognition for this unique asset in Arizona, and to support the school’s fundraising and expansion efforts.
