Welcome to the International School of Arizona (ISA) and thank you for your interest in our unique educational institution.
ISA's educational programs offer students the opportunity to learn another language and culture in an immersion environment. Students gain a global perspective and obtain skills that enable them to communicate with a wide range of people, appreciate other cultures, become flexible thinkers, and enrich their lives.
ISA was created to fill an unmet need in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area for children to obtain early foreign language learning in a multicultural setting. Each year new language class options and cultural activities are added to the school's offerings for both ISA students and the general public. Thanks to the dedication of our parents, teachers and community supporters since the school’s inception in 1997, ISA continues to evolve into a treasured resource and community asset.
For prospective parents:
ISA's academic programs are challenging and each child needs the full support of his or her parents to perform at the level expected of them by the school. Learning a foreign language with the goal of achieving native-like fluency and literacy requires an ongoing commitment of time and dedication, with benefits that will last your child a lifetime.
For ISA supporters:
ISA relies on community support to aid in the school's growth and program expansions. We are seeking partnerships with community and corporate entities to enhance the school’s program offerings and build upon our cultural and language offerings. Please view our support page to learn just some of the ways in which you can join the ISA in achieving our vision.
Sincerely,
Michelle Borie
Head of School
1998
The International School of Arizona was founded by a group of dedicated parents, international educators, and community members whose goal was to fill an unmet need in the Phoenix metropolitan area: for children to obtain early foreign language learning in a multicultural setting. ISA opened its doors on September 3, 1998, as a private, non-profit organization offering a French-American immersion track with an enrollment of 15 students.
Today, ISA has evolved into a treasured resource and community asset with over 250 students, a staff of over 50 teachers and administrators from all over the globe, and dedicated families that commute from over 13 Valley cities to take part in ISA’s full time and/or enrichment programs.
1999
ISA gained accreditation from the French Ministry of Education
2005
ISA added its Spanish-American immersion track with one preschool classroom in the fall of 2005. Today, ISA’s Spanish Track begins at two year old pre-school and runs through 2nd grade. A Spanish 3rd gradewill be added in the 2012/13 school year. With a close partnership with the Spanish Ministry of Education, ISA plans to open a grade level each year until the Spanish Track is parallel with the French Track.
2011
ISA community members and supporters receive approval to launch a Middle School to be called International Charter School of Arizona.
ISA maintains accreditations and memberships with organizations who support and promote language education. These connections allow ISA to enhance its ability to provide a global education to its students through partnerships, education, and information sharing. The following are current ISA Accreditations and Memberships:
Accreditations
- Ministère de l'Éducation nationale francaise
- Agence pour l'enseignement française à l'étranger (AEFE)
Memberships
- Association of French Schools in North America (AFSA)
- Arizona Association of Independent Schools (AAIS)
- Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (AZHCC)
- Arizona Language Association (AZLA)
- Arizona Charter Schools Association (ACSA)
ISA looks forward to attaining accreditation through the International Spanish Academies, an educational program in English and Spanish developed by the Spanish Government. Once an MOU is developed between the Arizona Department of Education and the Ministry of Education and Science of Spain, ISA will be able to start the accreditation process.
