About Us

The International School of Arizona (ISA) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization operating in the City of Scottsdale, Arizona USA.

Our diverse community is made up of like-minded, multicultural parents who understand that high academic standards, a small school with a family atmosphere, and fluency in multiple languages are elements that offer the greatest value to their children in the short and the long term. Many of our families come from various national, ethnic and religious groups. Others are monolingual Americans who understand the great gift they are offering their children. Our families develop incredibly strong bonds across this diversity.

The student population ranges from age 2 (PK2) through 8th grade. From PK2-5th Grade, parents select either the French Program or the Spanish Program, where the majority of the day is taught in that language. We welcome new students with minimal French or Spanish fluency to all levels. In our International Middle School, we offer an honors level International Curriculum with Advanced Foreign Language for students who wish to excel in academics, receive intensive language instruction by native speaking teachers and socialize with students from the U.S. and other countries.  Middle School students wishing to continue with Advanced French, may following our French Curriculum which is structured on the French Ministry of Education Middle School accreditation standards. Our Middle School graduates are well prepared for the best college preparatory and International Baccalaureate high schools in the USA and beyond.

History

The school was founded in 1997 by a group of French-American community members who wanted to create an educational option for valley families who were interested in an immersion program in English and French. The intention was to add additional languages as the school grew and demand increased.

The school began operations in Tempe in 1998 by renting space from a small church where it held
Pre-School and Elementary classes for four years. In 2002, the school relocated to South
Scottsdale where it operated for five years until it relocated in 2007 to 9128 E. San Salvador Drive in
Scottsdale. In 2012, a second campus was leased near Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. on Via Linda, to
meet the growing demand at the preschool grade levels. An Annex was leased in a property next to
the 9128 building in order to increase office space in April of 2015.

In November, 2015, ISA purchased its own campus. After only 6 months of renovations and repurposing of the existing building, the 3 sites were united under one roof at 9522 E. San Salvador Drive.

The French Immersion program was offered exclusively until 2005, at which time a Spanish
Immersion program was introduced at the Pre-School level. The Spanish program continued to add
grade levels each year as the program grows with the growth of committed families and students. To
date, our Spanish program has reached the 6th grade and the French has reached 8th. The school
follows curricula set forth by the French Ministry of Education, the Spanish Ministry of Education
and the State of Arizona.

In August, 2015. ISA inaugurated the first Middle School cohort from the French track and introduced a third language program for students in grades 4-8.
